I think the Outback Outdoor XT will be my next vehicle. Cheaper than a Ranger or Colorado, will be a master of the grids, decent fuel economy, should be enough go. I figure if I keep saving and get my Fiesta paid off in the spring, I should be able to make one work in the fall. Is it smart to buy a dad car before I have kids (or even a significant other) ? Or is it extra smart, because it’ll be paid off by the time I have kids and therefore will not be a problem when kids destroy it? The world may never know.
Also, I just like sharing pictures of this thing, because I think it’s rad as hell.

Wait till you have 2 kids and their verious booster/kid/baby seats and realize you need a thousand dollars of roof cargo system and you still can’t see out the rear window. Just saying. That’s my dad experience. Get the dad car when you need to dad.

Do it! There’s a reason Outbacks sell so well and the XT should fix the only real issue with it (being underpowered)
Also +1 for the tag

It's also just a more responsible car in general. Besides, if I have one fully responsible car, that means I can justify an even more irresponsible car as a secondary!

One reason I got a two door car to DD was beca use if it ever came down to it I could tell a female that the M3 was the more practical and could justify keeping it that way.
I will say, I’ve been seeing this girl and went took the 3 to dinner the other night and when she got in it, she thought it was my fun car. Didn’t realize I had two BMWs; when she learned that fact she called me extra.

Do it! Given that I suddenly may need to buy a car sooner than anticipated, I'm also looking at an outback for my wife.and i

If you are single, you do not need to justify anything!

Think we could get matching stripes if we both got Outbacks?

That's why my boss keeps telling me to buy a Mustang!

Wife and I test drove a new 2018 Forester XT extensively last year and we were sorely disappointed. T he CVT is AWFUL, as in I really can’t say enough about how tragic it is because its so bad it completely hamstrings the rest of an otherwise okay car. And I say okay because the rest of the car was meh, especially the interior. It was easily the worst interior of all the cars we drove. I hope the Outback is better.

I'll test drive one whenever they get into dealers, just to verify my decision.

Get the Outback if that’s what you want and it makes you happy.
Do not get an Outback because it is a dad car and you might be a dad one day. Once you are a dad, you’ll have plenty of time to drive shit that you hate because it’s safe or has room for 3 car seats and 10 strollers and 6 cases of diapers and a breast pump... blah blah blah
Outback XT is pretty rad. You don’t have to be a dad.

Just got a white V60 to match my sister’s white Outback. Both are very nice.

If you canr stand the CVT when you do test drive it, check out the Honda Passport. Not a wagon but very similar intented function. PLUS that AWD system is excellent and cant complain about a Honda V6

I drove a CR-V with the CVT and didn’t even notice it, to be honest. There was nothing about it that would deter me from owning one.

Or just buy my Rally Van.
Get the same fuel economy, have more useful space, and have a more off road capable vehicle, all while saving thousands of dollars.

I think it’s more of that’s excessive.

In that case go ahead. We test drove a 3.6R recently and I liked everything about for a family car except the CVT. My wife loves the Outback and Crosstrek and we will be going back later this year to test drive the XT Outback and Legacy...for future consideration.
